She is married to her husband of forty-four years, Eugene, and they have one daughter, Joi. She is a wife, a mother, and a published poet. Her love for both reading and writing began as a child and have continued throughout her life as an adult. Below is a compilation of different poems written by a diverse group of poets that in some way contemplates growing up. Her first stop was Okinawa, Japan, and later she moved to Ramstein, Germany, to teach before retiring from a career that was both fulfilling and rewarding. To fulfill a dream of traveling and working abroad, Jimmie left her Staff Development Specialist position at Sacramento Unified School District to teach in the Department of Defense Schools. She has taught English as a second language to children and adults in California and Nebraska. She taught Reading and Language Arts to students in grades kindergarten through eight from Nebraska to Arizona and California. Jimmie is an educator whose career extends over a period of thirty-nine years and crosses three continents. It is through colorful chronicles that Growing Up Is Not an Option entertains, raises questions, and affirms that aging is one of life’s uncontrollable certainties. In writing her poems and short stories, Jimmie draws from culture, upbringing, and relatable life experiences to eloquently describe the inevitability of growing up and all that comes with it-curiosity, love, devastation, loss, joy, and so much more.
